• Ash Wednesday Reflection

As we approach the beginning of the Lenten season, I think about the day that starts this holy time of year, Ash Wednesday. I love the symbolism which starts this day; ashes are made from the prior year's palm branches and spread in the shape of the cross on the forehead or hand. We begin the journey with Christ to Jerusalem. Remembering Jesus' time in the wilderness, 40 days of prayer and fasting that prepared Him for his earthly ministry. Then the path that took Him to the Holy City; the Last Supper with His disciples; His arrest and crucifixion; the dark days in the tomb; and the ultimate victory of the resurrection which we celebrate on Easter. Through prayer, scripture and the faithful family of Friedens church, I know my journey this year will be one of deepening faith, the victory of the cross and eternal life as promised. ~Lisa Haver
