Key Notes from the reading & sermon:

An account of the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David to the deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the deportation to Babylon to the Messiah, fourteen generations.

Jesus the Messiah

Some curious details in the genealogy of Jesus reveal God’s peculiar way of making promises of blessing and reconciliation come to fulfillment in the most surprising people and unexpected events. Thanks to the grace of God we are always more than the influences of nature and nurture. We can become a new creation in Christ!

Questions for Reflection:

How does your family deal with skeletons in the closet?

Can you name a time God worked through an unexpected person or event to accomplish something wonderful in your life?

Is the past the best indication of the future?

How does Jesus open the door in your life to something new?

Can you think of someone whose past is holding them back?

How might you be a vessel for good news and a fresh start in the Spirit of Christ?
