De-escalation Training - All Adults Welcome!

The Safe Church Team and the Lifelong Spiritual Formation Ministry Team would like to invite everyone who works with and/or cares for children and young teens to come and learn how to help them regulate and regain calm in challenging situations. This training is Sunday, January 5th after the 10:30 a.m. worship service in the Kendall Children and Family Center for about 30 minutes.

 

We are grateful to Katy Campbell for leading this training. She received a masters degree from Ball State in Social Work in 2021. She has a twin brother with Down syndrome and behavioral issues. She has worked in schools for 6 years in a social worker complicity and has 2 years of experience working with people experiencing homelessness in Indianapolis.

Prayer walk on Children’s Sabbath, October 20 th at noon - beginning and ending at Friedens United Church of Christ church building and gardens (8300 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN, 46217) to Perry Meridian Middle School track with a loop around the track and back to the church for snacks. Snacks will be provided.

Wellness Series with Frankie Grounded Grace: Cultivating Inner Safety & Security (Copy) (Copy)

Goal: To increase feelings of safety & security in the body

How: Through a 3 part series of body-based practices focused on 1) increasing self-awareness, 2) learning effective settling techniques, and 3) leaning into your power. There will be take-home offerings after each session to deepen the experience.

  • Session 1: Notice. This session focuses on increasing awareness of the body’s responses to various stimuli, without judgment. August 3, 2024.

  • Session 2: Practice. This session focuses on practices that ground and settle the body. September 7, 2024.

  • Session 3: Plan. This session builds upon the previous two sessions to create a written plan to continue building trust within oneself. October 5, 2024.

  • All sessions will be at Friedens United Church of Christ church building (8300 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN 46217).

Bio: Frankie is passionate about encouraging exploration, change, and empowerment within individuals. She has professional experience in youth work and adult development, and she tries to offer guidance and support based on her lived experiences and formal education. Central to Frankie’s approach is the belief that being aligned with oneself is foundational for any form of justice. She is particularly interested in mental and emotional healing. Frankie strives to create inclusive environments where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. Professionally, she is a social worker studying for her clinical license. Unprofessionally, she is a spouse, dog enthusiast, adventurer, home gardener, and optimist.

Wellness Lunch and Learn: Mental Health and Music with Phoebe

Please join us for our next wellness lunch and learn with Phoebe!  We will meet in the Kendall Children and Family Center after the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday, April 14th for a taco bar and a conversation about ways music, sound, and rhythm can have a healing effect.  Phoebe is a talented singer/songwriter.  Come and experience some of her original songs relating to mental health followed by a time to reflect on and chat about the variety of ways we may experience God’s blessings through music and sound.  Please invite people to join you.  All are welcome.  Please contact pastorsarah.friedensucc@outlook.com with questions or any dietary needs.  Thank you!

Wellness Lunch and Learn with Gabrielle and Matt
(as Eating Disorder Awareness and Prevention Week begins)

Gabrielle Glorioso, M.A. is a clinical psychology doctoral student at the University of Indianapolis. She has research and clinical interests in eating disorder prevention and
maintenance and is passionate about using education to decrease weight stigma. She currently provides therapeutic services at Beech Tree Psychological Services and DePauw University Counseling Services.

Matthew Cyra, M.S. is a clinical psychology doctoral student at the University of Indianapolis. He enjoys providing treatment to individuals who are struggling with body image concerns and their relationship with food. He has worked with those diagnosed with eating disorders in both the residential and private practice settings. Matthew currently provides therapeutic services at Beech Tree Consulting and Psychological Services.

Anxiety Workshop

Anxiety can take different shapes, but often, it all lands within the body. However, being proactive with movement, breath, and phrases/mantras may allow us to step out of it. We will learn how we are able to incorporate the practice of yoga to help us manage our stress. Please wear comfortable clothes and bring your own mat.

About or Facilitator
Fatimaeliza has been teaching yoga since 2018 and offers a creative yoga flow with different modifications for all intensities. She is a RYT® 500, RPYT® through Yoga Alliance. She is also Reiki Certified. Fatimaeliza has a passion for empowering others through the practice of yoga and invites you to join her on the mat.
