Strengths for Discipleship: Exploring and Developing Our Strengths for Christ
Strengths for Discipleship: Exploring and Developing Our Strengths for Christ is an exciting process of discovery developed by Gallup, Inc. and customized by and for Friedens United Church of Christ. Working through the dynamic of small group meetings, this program is designed to enable Friedens members to identify their personal strengths and to understand how those strengths can lead to a deeper appreciation of how to put faith into action in one’s daily life.
Strengths for Discipleship is offered several times a year. Each offering is a four-session series. Sessions follow a similar pattern that includes prayer, scripture, sharing with others who are also on the journey of strengths development, and questions to guide your reflection and sharing. Each session ends with a closing prayer and questions to guide reflection between the group sessions.
For those who have completed the Strengths for Discipleship series, Friedens offers two additional opportunities for Christians to reconnect you with their strengths and friends with whom we began this journey.
Strengths for Discipleship: Recap, Review. Refresh!
This two-session "advanced" course is designed for former Strengths for Discipleship participants to reconnect with their strengths with new activities and discussion topics.
Strength through Scripture
This 6-week Bible Study series studies the Bible to see what God says about the importance of cultivating and using our individual strengths and talents for His purposes and why it is important to use scripture to guide how we can develop our talents.

The Worship and Arts Committee is responsible for decorating the church for the different seasons throughout the year. This includes setting up several trees, wreaths for entrance doors, the advent wreath and candles, and the large wreath behind the altar. We see that the correct seasonal paraments and candles are on the altar. We oversee along with the worship staff, the two Christmas Eve Services as well.
For the Lenten Season we aid in setting up the different paraments, candles, and banners used. We oversee the service for Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
We are responsible for organizing teams to coordinate acolytes, greeters, ushers, wedding assistant, lay readers, and communion. We work in conjunction with the Music Director who organizes the adult choir, bell choir, children’s choir and special music. The committee also supports the arts by sponsoring musical concerts as well as special children’s activities during the service that would involve them in worship in a way they can relate.
We also provide altar enhancements for special Sunday services such Bread for Life and Thanksgiving.
In addition to our volunteer committee members, there are numerous opportunities for any age to help out. We are happy to have volunteers donate as much or as little time as they have to give.
Friedens Moving Outward
It is more than just a committee. It is our way of life. It is the thread that runs through all our ministries as we strive to serve those who walk through our doors and those outside our doors.
What is Friedens Moving Outward? It is more than just a committee. It is our way of life. It is the thread that runs through all our ministries as we strive to serve those who walk through our doors and those outside our doors. The work of this committee is focused on three core areas:
Moving from members to disciples – we all identify as church members whose needs are served, yet, we also are helping each other to be active disciples who follow the loving way of Jesus.
Serving children and youth – we are transforming our church structure, resources, campus, staffing and ministries toward a ministry focus of sharing the love of Christ with children and youth in our community.
Seeking community partners – when we work together with other like-minded churches and nonprofit organizations in our community, we maximize our ability to focus on ongoing and new programming for children and youth.
Where can you see examples of Friedens Moving Outward?
In the faces of the children who arrive at our doors to go to preschool.
In the young men who participate in Boy Scouts activities in our building.
In the garden across the street from our church and the families it feeds.
In the hundreds of weekender bags that our Sunday School students pack each month.
In the lives of the youth who are learning to celebrate Jesus through music.
In the joy our young members in Treasure Seekers experience each Sunday.
