A Wise Reign
The Lord is king, he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed, he is girded with strength. He has established the world; it shall never be moved; your throne is established from of old; you are from everlasting.
The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their roaring.
More majestic than the thunders of mighty waters, more majestic than the waves of the sea, majestic on high is the Lord!
Your decrees are very sure; holiness befits your house, O Lord, forevermore.

Last Sunday Psalm 16, a song praising the security discovered in God’s presence, invited us to renew our relationship with God. When we know God and we are at one with God, we see more clearly the majesty, wisdom and strength of God that is proclaimed in Psalm 93. These two ancient songs provide an inspiring foundation for living a life of faith and gratitude.
Questions for Reflection:
Today’s psalm envisions God robed in majesty and strength. Human monarchs and leaders may wear ornate garments and robes to suggest their power and position. In comparison is there any doubt of the true source of authority? How do you experience the majesty and strength of God? How is Divine strength revealed in self-giving love?
The images of floods and roaring waters are prominent in this song. It brings to mind, the primordial chaos and darkness of Genesis 1:1. The psalm affirms that the Lord rules over and orders chaos. How do you experience this Divine attribute and action in your life?
The song concludes with praise for a God whose decrees are sure. In our time “alternative facts” fuel conspiracy theories that spread like wildfire on social media and sow division. Distrust of religious, educational, journalistic, and scientific institutions undermine truth-telling. How might the decrees of God, especially as we have come to know and live them in the way of Jesus, provide a foundation for truth?

A Practice to Focus on Discipleship
We are using an ancient spiritual practice called Lectio Divina. This is a prayerful way of reading a scripture passage with mindfulness of Christ’s Living Spirit in the words. We are currently using Romans 12:9-18 as our scripture focus. On Sundays please slowly read through these verses a few times in an attitude of prayer. Pay attention to a word or phrase that stands out. Then apply this word or phrase to the challenges and opportunities of each day in the week.
